1937 Wyandotte, No.346 Land Cruiser Auto Set in Original Box

1937 Wyandotte, No.346 Land Cruiser Auto Set in Original Box

Outstanding art deco style, matched sedan and trailer combination set. Manufactured by Wyandotte for only two years 1937-38. Heavy gauge steel construction with baked on enamel. Black wooden tires are all original. Comes complete with scarce original box.

Like so many other objects designed after the 1933 Century of Progress World's Fair its low, sleek design was meant to confer "speed" even when standing still.  Front and rear "tear drop" fenders based on the winged Mercury were incorporated into the auto, while the trailer was embossed with a Mercury wing under each front, side window.

The auto also includes a chrome plated steel grille assembly (front bumper, headlights and hood ornament), divided front windshield . The underside chassis is open. The trailers' rear door is hinged to open and close. It has a black solid plate chassis. They use a turn and lock style hitch.

The narrow box has a single green color, detailed illustration of the auto-trailer set repeated on every panel. The toy name, manufacturer name, address and catalog number were also printed.

Size: Overall length 11¾". Auto 5¾". Trailer 5½".
